Weekend Stock Market Analysis

(4/27/13)

The latest Margin Debt from the NYSE for March has been released.  It has increased to 380 Billion Dollars which is just below the previous all time high made in May of 2007.

However if we adjust the values in terms of real dollars going back to 1958 this makes a slight difference in the numbers.  The current Margin Debt is still below the 2007 peak but around the 2000 peak.   As I have mentioned before the last two times the Margin Debt exceeded 380 Billion Dollars tops followed shortly thereafter.  Thus if investors are forced into margin calls this would spell trouble for the market at some point.
